Description
1903A1 Spingfield rifle. This fully functional "replica" rifle can be a little confusing as to what it really is, so a breakdown is useful.
WHAT THIS RIFLE IS NOT: This is not an original USMC sniper rifle. The scope is a modern reproduction, a Wm. Malcom "USMC Sniper." These are nice clear scopes generally regarded as a good quality scope for shooting, but they are clearly not original. Furthermore, the mounts used on the rifle are also clearly not orignial - authentic bases are a nice shiny blue, while these are much heavier and appear black. Other little details point away from authenticity as well - the stock cut is cleaner than expected and the area under the cut lacks the same wear as the rest of the rifle.
WHAT THIS RIFLE IS: This is a very nice "shooter" 1903 in a sniper-style configuration. While the rifle looks very nice and operates well, virtually none of the parts match. The serial number on the receiver dates the rfle to 1931. The bolt is a very desirable "NS" nickel steel, generally considered the strongest and longest lasting of the different bolt variations. The barrel is a 4 groove Springfield Armory barrel dated to May of 1939. Stock is a "scant" style stock of unknown vintage. All of these disparate parts combine to paint a picture of a gun put together, likely out of a spare receiver and various available parts, to make a really nice shooter. The included scope is legal for Service Rifle style competitions as well, which makes this a great choice for a scoped rifle for competition without having to pay for an original 1903A1 sniper or 1903A4 sniper.
