Communication was good. Shipping was prompt and trouble free. The colt is very nice. Tolerances are good, fit and finish good. Plastic mainspring housing was one of the only downsides. Will have to replace with a steel one. Plastic on a 1911?? Not acceptable.
Gunprime was great, as always. I am very disappointed with the firearm. The thing is a rattle trap. The trigger is gritty. The “roll marks” are an absolute disgrace. They are laser cut. Shallow and very sharp. Colt used to be the gold standard for 1911s. Now, I think they are using their name to sell substandard firearms at a premium. I have seen many examples of RIAs that were built way better than this. I will stick to other brands. This saddens me since I used to hold Colt in such high regard.
After some negative reviews over the past few years on Colts’ quality control issues, I think I have a winner. Fit and finish on this basic Colt blued 1911 is excellent. Smooth racking and overall a good built firearm. Trigger could use a little attention as the gritty creep is a little excessive but won’t be hard to remedy. The bluing is nicely done as there are no light or dark spots, just a nice uniform finish. I do think that Colt should go one step further and install an arched main spring housing with a lanyard loop and it would be a better representation of an A1. The checkered double diamond grips are walnut and really add a nice touch to this piece. All in all I received a really nice Colt 1911 and hopefully quality control stepped up their game and just maybe the factory is turning out some better products than in the past. This one gets a solid A from me.
This is a plain Jane no frills 1911. About the only upgrade done to these is the chrome lined barrel (the older government models don't have this upgrade). However, the lack of frills doesn't interfere with function. This is my 2nd government model, and I've been shooting the first for 20+ years with no issues. I chose to buy a 2nd, despite all the other 1911 options out there.
Pros- reliable, accurate, simple, nostalgic. With good ammo and magazines these run great. I trust my life to this pistol and would carry it into combat.
Cons- Same as with all steel frame 1911s its heavy and has a limited magazine capacity. Also the factory magazines are not great. Yeah they'll work, but about 200 rounds in they start double feeding. I switched to Wilson Combat 7, 8 and 10 round mags and haven't had an issue since. This is something I've learned to do with all my Colt 1911s, and I now have 8 of them.
Probably not the best option as a concealed carry weapon because of the size and weight. I carry a Colt defender as.mt EDC and its more suited for that purpose. But this is in my nightstand, and probably sees more range time than every other handgun I own. Definitely recommend, especially at this price. Gunprime doesn't charge tax either, which saves you close to $100 off the total price. You won't be disappointed.
I was hesitant to use GP bc of flaky older reviews. I decided to gamble. I watched their how to Video on buying a firearm online with them. No taxes and stupid fees!
Just shipping and the Colt 1911 was 150 dollars less than other sites. GP is 5 Star. Easy process, lightning fast shipping. The best communication and updates I have ever experienced. I will definitely shop here again. A+ company. Thanks!
