Colt Single Action Army 45 LC Revolver 4 3/4" SAA 1915 Stag Grips
Description
Colt Single Action Army 45 LC Revolver SAA 1915
serial #330953, 45 Colt, 4 3/4'' barrel with a very good plus bore which is mostly bright with strong rifling but shows some scattered light oxidation or perhaps light pinprick pitting. The metal surfaces on this honest old revolver retain about 97% later excellent quality silver plate, the backstrap has been lightly cleaned to a dull bare gunmetal gray. The principal markings all remain fully legible with the latter half of the barrel roll marking light in a couple spots, the Rampant Colt has lost his ears but it is highly likely just an off-set strike to begin with. The gun is equipped with antique genuine stag grips of the period, they are un-marked but rate very fine with a deep mellowed age patina, the right grip with a number of carved-groove ''kill notches'', there being six along the lower right edge of the butt and three midway up, perhaps one set for bad hombres, the other set for prairie chickens. The very top rear of the sight blade shows a period inlaid nub of copper, no doubt for a finer sight picture, now toned to a dull ochre patina with the years. There are some remnants of very light pitting beneath the finish on frame and a couple very tiny areas of bubbling, but overall the gun has a lovely appearance with a purple-hue tarnishing silver patina. All of the numbers are matching and the gun seems to time and function properly.
